About the Study
Study Overview
Green Bay Road is a vital link connecting northern and southern Wilmette, and the Village’s downtown business district. It serves as a thoroughfare for surrounding communities and provides access to numerous multimodal sites, including the Metra station and Green Bay Trail. The Green Bay Road Corridor, between Isabella Street and Ashland Avenue, is currently in need of rehabilitation and upgrades in order to accommodate users of all modes. The Green Bay Road Corridor Improvements Study is an opportunity to reimagine this corridor to reflect the unique identity of Wilmette and improve the safety and mobility of all users.
Potential improvements to Green Bay Road could include:
- Replacing curb and sidewalk
- Upgrading crosswalks and crosswalk ramps
- Improving pedestrian and bicycle facility crossings and connections
- Improving bus stops
- Parkway restoration
- Improving landscaping, streetscape beautification, and placemaking
- Resurfacing the roadway
- Modifying intersections near railroad crossings
- Repairing utility structures
- Modernizing traffic signals
Study Goals
- Improve the safety and mobility of all users of Green Bay Road, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists
- Enhance streetscaping, landscaping and placemaking along the corridor
- Actively engage the community and develop a design that reflects the community’s vision and priorities
